From Gail's Custom Cakes:
"Little did I know that in 2002, my sugar art career would start. My son had just been married at city hall, and I wanted to give him and his bride a little reception. I thought, “I can do this!” So I went to the local cake supply, bought some gumpaste and a leaf cutter, and went home to bake. I cut a number of leaves, baked and iced three cakes, and decorated each cake with the leaves. I set the cakes on risers and put purple silk flowers on top. That was the humble beginning of what has become an art form for me.
Since then, my love and passion of the sugar arts has grown into a career. I put my heart and soul into each and every cake I create. I am a member of ICES (International Cake Exploration Societé) and have served as the State Representative for the Tennessee Chapter for four years. I have studied under some of the leading sugar artists in the industry: Nicholas Lodge, Collette Peters, Toba Garrette, Bronwen Weber, Susan Carbarry, and Joe Bushnell. I keep myself abreast of changes in the world of the sugar arts by learning new techniques, trends, and tips."
